What is the name, class, and spec of your primary tank?
Askevar, Death Knight, Frost 2h [offspec is Dual Wield Frost]
What is your primary tanking environment? (i.e. raids, pvp, 5 mans)
25 man raids, 10 mans and occasional heroics
What is your favorite tankng spell for your class and why?
Howling Blast – love watching the massive crit on an aoe group… especially whelps on Ony, when procs hit right.
What tanking spell do you use least for your class and why?
um… not sure about tanking spell, but I rarely get the chance to use Army of the Dead.
What do you feel is the biggest strength of your tanking class and why?
Tough as steel. Makes it easy for the healers to heal you, you take less damage. While you don’t dodge as much as a bear, you dodge/parry more than a pally generally speaking.
What do you feel is the biggest weakness of your tanking class and why?
Threat. Threat is something you must work for and be on your toes every second. Not a problem if you enjoy that intensity, but it can be frustrating to a new dk tank.
In a 25 man raiding environment, what do you feel, in general, is the best tanking assignment for you?
Depends on the boss. I’m typically better on single target. I just about always tank 25 mans with my hubby [paladin] and we have a third rotating tank [druid, pally, warrior or dk… depends on who is there that week]. But yeah, I’m usually on single-target.
What tanking class do you enjoy tanking with most and why?
I’ve got a dk, druid and pally tank and I’m working on a warrior at the moment. I LOVE dk tanking the most… it’s wild, crazy, and intense and scarily, I love it.
What tanking class do you enjoy tanking with least and why?
I’m only leveling my prot warrior now [almost level 50] but the stance dancing is VERY frustrating so I expect I will like warrior the least. The druid is manageable but frustrating with AOE. The paladin almost seems too easy [not to disparage pally tanks of course] and too different from the dk atm.
What is your worst habit as a tank?
Too quick to yank things off people on occasion. I’ve yanked adds off of healers on Ignis [while tanking Ignis – which I should let the other tanks handle] but clothies can’t take two hits, so eh. I’m equally bad about letting a trigger happy dps get eaten if they pull too many times.
What is your biggest pet peeve in a group environment while tanking?
DPS pulling, or going in to quick and popping all their CDs. The first five seconds are crucial for me threat-wise. If I can survive them, I’m good, but eh, sometimes dps get too… eager.
Do you feel that your class/spec is well balanced with other tanks?
Balanced with warriors and druids, yes. With Paladins? Heck no. Our threat is comparatively low.
What tools do you use to evaluate your own performance as a tank?
I like to take a glance at recount to see my dps… which is never great as a tank but eh I just like to know. Mainly I rely on our healers to tell me how I’m doing and I will regularly ask them how “squishy” I am :P. I also have hubby evaluate my threat as he has a chance in fights.
What do you think is the biggest misconception people have about your class?
DKs are noobs. Some people have actually taken the time to learn how to tank with their class.
What do you feel is the most difficult thing for new tanks of your class to learn? Um… to stack more beyond stam and def… A LOT of wannabe tanks seem to think that’s all you stack but avoidance is VERY important.
Effective Health or Avoidance and why? Balance of both. But I tend to value the avoidance a bit more, at least on the beginning side of becoming a tank. The health naturally comes up with gear and with being able to replace enchants with stam ones.
What tanking class do you feel you understand least?
Warriors since I’m just now leveling one. He’s currently almost level 50
What add-ons or macros do you use, if any, to aid you in tanking?
I have a “You yank it, you tank it” macro I pop when a dps yanks aggro right off. It’s a /yell, so it gets the point across. Since I put that in, I may go several raids without using it now.
But yeah, other than that, I use Omen [when it works] but lately it gives me a constant stream of error messages when I have aggro… which fill my screen… still haven’t determined the problem. I, of course, also use bigwigs.
Do you strive primarily for balance between your tanking stats, or do you stack some much higher than others, and why? Balance is VERY important. I keep Askevar hit capped, expertise capped, a decent amount of stam of course and dodge/parry when possible.

No favorite… each spell or ability has it’s use in a raid or instance.
What tanking spell do you use least for your class and why?
Wings (Can’t remember the name)
What do you feel is the biggest strength of your tanking class and why?
Tough, takes less damage than DK’s and Druids, dodges more than Warriors. Lots of threat to go along with that, and a high dps for a tank (recently did 3K+ dps as a tank on Patchwerk 10 man)
What do you feel is the biggest weakness of your tanking class and why?
Survivability based on total HP. Paladins have the lowest HP of the mainly used tanking classes.
In a 25 man raiding environment, what do you feel, in general, is the best tanking assignment for you?
Typically AOE. I’ve geared and spec’d for AOE tanking. I do great on single target, but usually boss fights (Kologarn, Ingis) need the AOE. I main tank on specialized fights that need a high dps output (Hodir, XT).

I only have a paladin… so…

Again… only have a paladin…
What is your worst habit as a tank?
Not letting enough dps die to their own stupidity.
What is your biggest pet peeve in a group environment while tanking?
Healers and DPS that CANNOT adjust to the needs of the encounter. When an Add is running loose, DPS runs away… and dies because a tank is too far away to grab the mob.
Do you feel that your class/spec is well balanced with other tanks?
Balanced on damage vs. avoidence vs. HP, yes. Threat wise, no.
What tools do you use to evaluate your own performance as a tank?
Recount for Damage Taken and DPS, Omen for Threat, and talking to my healers about my squishiness.
What do you think is the biggest misconception people have about your class?
Paladins are easy mode tanking. Truth of the matter is that any tank spec/class can tank… it takes a true mindset to be GOOD at tanking. I hate bad tanks (hand of reckoning in your rotation? Death grip used by a dps?).
What do you feel is the most difficult thing for new tanks of your class to learn?
Don’t stack just Stamina. God, please L2P!

Balance of both. Effective Health and avoidence go hand in hand for a tank.
